There are many things to consider when shopping for a new home.  One of the first things most people think about is whether to buy a newly built home or an existing, previously owned home. According to a survey done by Trulia, more people in the U.S. prefer to buy new homes over previously owned homes.  If you are one of those people, here are some benefits that come along with buying a newly built home.


From different types of flooring, cabinets, paint colors to alternate plan layouts, newly built homes often come with a lot of flexibility for customization.  Home buyers can choose from options that fit their needs and lifestyle before move-in day. So if, for example, you have a big family, you can opt to get an extra bedroom and bathroom instead of a home office.

Energy Efficient Materials

Building codes change every few years to set new, higher standards for the materials and construction.  New homes built using these improved materials and construction methods tend to be much safer and energy efficient than older homes.

Fewer Repairs and Less Maintenance

Brand new homes require less maintenance than older homes. For one, they consist of with newer, more resilient materials. Since they are newly built, they also haven’t had much exposure to outdoor elements, and the normal wear and tear that happens when the home is older and has been lived in for years.


Newly built homes generally come with warranties that can cover any major repairs needed within the first year. Meaning, you’re likely covered for a roof leak or a broken water heater.

There’s constantly new advances made to appliances and other technologies.  A new home often come with high-efficiency appliances and the latest technology built in.  This can save you a lot of time and money spent trying to upgrade these in an older home.
