Budget-Friendly Organization Tips

Does the New Year have you inspired to give your home an organization makeover? Here are some of D.R. Horton’s favorite tips for low-cost organization with products from The Container Store.

Tackle the Junk Drawer

We get it – every house has one. But that doesn’t mean that all the random items like pens, stamps, keys, coupons and paperclips can’t at least be sorted so you can easily get what you need. We love the Everything Organizer for its two levels and compartment decals so everyone knows what goes where.

Sort the Linen Closet

Frustrated when you need to make up the guest room or air bed and can’t find the entire set of matching sheets? Put your leftover gift ribbon to good use by tying sheet sets together. Don’t have ribbon on hand? Pull out a pillowcase per set and use it as a bag to hold the linens. You’ll never have to guess what’s inside, since the linen set matches the pillowcase!

Use all Vertical Space

Don’t be limited by what your closet has to offer in terms of organization. Add a second hanging rod to double your hang up space, add behind-the-door hanging storage in your pantry to store utility items like spices and food storage bags, and add shelf dividers to keep things tidy on the top shelf.

Have left over holiday boxes or shoe boxes? Don’t throw them in the recycle just yet. Shoe boxes, especially, make for great drawer organizers for socks, office supplies, or even small toys.

Make a Jewelry Station

Isn’t it amazing how two or three necklaces stored in one drawer or bag together can produce the most sophisticated of knots? Hang a peg or cork board on your closet wall and with simple silver nails, you have a tidy place to hang necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The best part? You can personalize your peg or cork board by painting it your favorite color or adding a monogram.
